Description

Alstom is having sustained commercial activities with the objective of having new wind offshore contracts. In order to study the site specifications, we are looking for an Electrical Engineer for Offshore Wind Turbine Tower and substructure, reporting to the Wind Offshore Product Engineering Manager. 

Purpose of the Job 

  • The position is part of the Offshore Wind Turbine Product Engineering and R&D department;
  • Responsible and technical referent for the Offshore Wind Turbine platform (Haliade) Tower Electrical Internals from Conceptual design to testing and validation;
  • The job will cover conceptual design and functional specification of the Tower electrical auxiliary systems to be mounted as part of the complete electrical system of Alstom Wind Turbine, including for instance lighting, electrical flanges, plugs, switches and emergency switches etc… ;
  • The role will also cover all tower/substructure electrical interfaces design and validation, including additional scope such as electrical cabinets/boxes, marine signalization devices or wiring (power, grounding, signal, communication, cable trays…);
  • This position may also cover integration of these equipments in the offshore wind turbine.

Responsibilities

  • Technical referent for all Offshore Wind Turbine Tower Internal and substructure electrical auxiliary systems within Alstom scope of supply;
  • Conceptual design and/or specification of tower electrical internals and auxiliary systems for all new Offshore Wind Turbine development, inc.;
  • Evaluation and approval of electrical elements sizing/calculation, selection and homologation;
  • Generate design and homologation documents;
  • Responsible for Power/signal/communication cables routing and associated documentation;
  • Support to Wind Farm Engineering regarding his/her scope items during tender stage;
  • Interface to project execution for all Wind Offshore project, ensuring that all project needs are taken into consideration regarding her/his scope items;
  • Create and/or adapt component specifications, design solutions and general layout of the electrical systems within her/his scope items for the offshore tower and substructure during each project execution;
  • Responsible for the definition of electrical interfaces between Tower and Substructure (inc. block diagram, single line diagrams, I/O signal and sensors, cable list, etc…);
  • Technical support to project in front of clients or local authorities in regards to his/her scope items;
  • Follow-up and supervision of designers for the detailed design including validation of documents, specifications and Bill of Materials;
  • Interface with and support mechanical integration team to ensure proper implementation in    drawings and bill of materials of the items in her/his scope;
  • Ensure availability of components that must be aligned with company’s internal standards;
  • Achieve on-time-delivery (OTD) for all deliverables under her/his responsibility (3D, 2D, BoM, Specifications, Technical Reports, …);
  • Develop and manage relevant solutions and associated documents adapted to local market needs and/or specific customer requirements;
  • Support to certification processes for components under his/her responsibility;
  • Team work and technical assistance to Industrial Engineering, Quality, EHS, Installation, Commissioning and O&M departments regarding industrialization, documentation and non-conformities of designed components;
  • Support and follow-up of suppliers and Alstom Wind Manufacturing Plants activities including Non Conformity Report resolution;
  • Technical support on Engineering Changes (ECR) process when required;
  • Support to validation of components by applying the complete life cycle: factory acceptance tests + Assembly test + Site test;
  • Eventual technical support to solve incidences from offshore wind farms;
  • Support cost reduction actions or studies;
  • Create/Update design methodology and processes.

Responsibilities EHS

  • To follow and enforce within its area of EHS management policy;
  • Participation with members in their area of responsibility, in making suggestions for improvements in order to avoid accidents;
  • Introduction of Alstom Wind EHS requirements into electrical documentation and verification processes/instructions;
  • Comply with EHS policy;
  • Participation in the development of courses and proposals for improvement to avoid incidents and accidents;
  • Carry out work according to the rules and procedures, avoiding any acts or omissions at work that might pose a danger or risk to its integrity or the people around them;
  • Wear personal protective equipment required for visiting assembly plants or wind turbines, checking that they are in perfect condition and ensuring the proper condition of the goods;
  • Take care of work equipment: machines, tools, facilities, ... they handle, ensuring the proper state, keeping in order and cleanliness their workplace;
  • Cooperate in combating any emergency that arises;
  • Immediately report failures, deficiencies, or any situation detected and that may pose a risk to people and anything that might involve some uncontrolled risk;
  • Report any accident or incident is detected, helping as needed in the subsequent investigation of it.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Electrical engineering degree.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical engineering;
  • Strong Knowledge of industrial product design and development, specifically electrical systems (cabinets, wiring, field sensors), AC/DC power converters/ motors, low voltage distribution systems, communication buses, cables and connectors, etc…;
  • General knowledge of SCADA, Data acquisition tools;
  • Experience in complex industrial arrangement;
  • Knowledge of electrical design software (CADdy, E3 or Eplan is a plus);
  • Used to conceptualize, specify, select and design electrical elements and the general arrangement of their interfaces and issue technical documentation;
  • General Knowledge of safety regulations applied at machinery design: machinery directives, European or international standards;
  • Basic knowledge of electrical components arrangement and interfaces with mechanical components;
  • Knowledge of documentation storage database and Bill of Material (SmartTeam is a plus);
  • Used to write technical design specifications/documents and follow design homologation procedures/tests for components under his/her responsibility;
  • Experience in managing designers (internal or external;
  • High Level of English. French / Spanish are a plus;
  • Experience in Wind turbine component and/or offshore structures and installations are a plus.
