PhD Studentship: Material performance prediction for optimised aircraft engine design

This PhD is funded by Rolls-Royce plc. and will explore the influence material mechanical, thermal and surface properties and chemical properties on the performance of engine materials using artificial intelligence techniques thus to optimise the design of new generation aircraft engines. The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to work with Rolls-Royce engine and material engineers in developing material prediction models for engine designs. Successful models will maximise the industry’s confidence in future aircraft engine design where new materials are considered. Outstanding candidates with engineering background especially in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering materials, tribology and/or artificial intelligence are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity.

The funding associate with this project covers EU/UK fees and stipend. Overseas students may have to cover the difference between EU/UK fees and international fees.
