PhD Research Fellowship position in Building Information Modelling

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology is now looking to increase its workforce and invites applications for a full-time fixed-term appointment as PhD Research Fellow for a period of four years with 25% of the time assigned to tasks at the faculty’s discretion, at the Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology. The position is mainly located in Oslo, Norway. In addition, the position involves several planned stays at the University of Agder, Department for Information Systems, Kristiansand, Norway.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology offers bachelor’s degree programmes in engineering and a master’s degree programme, in addition to research and development activities. The PhD dissertation topic should fall within the area “Use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in sustainable design, construction, and facility management”. While the position is located at HiOA’s Department of Civil Engineering the candidate will be enrolled in the PhD Programme Specialization in Information Systems at the University of Agder, Norway. The applicants must qualify for admission to the PhD Programme in Information Systems at the University of Agder, and must hold a master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field that also includes a component of subjects related to information technology and/or information systems. Candidates not meeting the formal admission requirements in full regarding subject areas, may be requested to take additional courses at the master´s level before being formally accepted into the PhD program. Applicants must submit a project description of no more than 10 pages including the bibliography. The project description should include a presentation of possible research questions, relevant theory, methodological approach, and a progress plan for the proposed doctoral project. Remuneration

Salary is set in accordance with the Norwegian State Salary Scale, job code 1017, wage scale 50-54 (NOK 429 400 – 458 500).

Expert committee

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Working experience from the architecture, engineering, and construction industry is also an advantage. The position places great demands on the candidate’s capacity for independent goal-oriented work. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of academic background and results, and any previous research and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised.
