Adding new software to any existing system may compromise the system’s safety and security. In addition, as more systems are distributed, security breaches can lead to safety problems due to use of remote information sources – e.g. from other, remote systems and from the cloud. Since neither safety nor security is an add-on, it is important to be able to analyse safety and security risks before a new service is added to an existing system or platform.

The Post Doc researcher is expected to work within the following areas:
• Unification of methods for safety and security analysis. Even though safety and security breaches have different causes, many methods used in analysis have several commonalities – e.g. misuse cases
• Asset identification and evaluation. In order to act in an economically rational way, we need to know which assets we want to protect and their value.
• Development process activities and system barriers to improve safety and security. Solutions can be related to both the development process – application of domain specific standards in safety and security – and to the solution itself by introducing barriers used to protect the assets or to reduce potential losses.

The candidate needs a Ph.D. in software engineering and information systems or related fields. Research experience and publications in safety and / or security is a bonus although not absolutely necessary.

The selected postdoctoral fellow will assist in the department’s research. The position represents an excellent opportunity for an individual to develop his/her career.
