Experimental testing and modelling of masonry infill walls in RC structures

In case of a seismic event, masonry infill walls in R.C. frame buildings are not subject only to out-‐of-‐plane actions but also to in-‐plane actions caused by the frame inter-‐storey displacement. The damage caused by in-‐plane deformation of the frame affects the out-‐of-‐plane resistance of infill walls, increasing the out-‐of-‐ plane collapse risk. In addition, although most regulations have recognized the importance of an adequate design of non-‐structural elements, efficient design procedures do not exist yet.

Therefore, the research program aims to tackle these issues through the development of an innovative

seismic resistant enclosure system; it is structured into the following phases:

Definition of the construction system

Design and execution of the experimental campaign

Analysis and processing of experimental results

Numerical modelling

Definition of design rules
