Secretary General or CEO for an Association in the Electricity Sector

Background Information:

An industrial alliance/association advocating on EU policies and initiatives for the electricity transmission sector in Europe is looking for a Secretary General / Chief Executive Officer for its European office in Brussels. Position to start around July 2015.

General information on the position:

The CEO will manage and represent the association on a daily basis. The CEO will work closely with the President and the Chairman of the Board, manage the working groups of the association and will lead a small but highly professional secretariat. The CEO’s role is to guide and advise the board on internal and external issues affecting the sector and/ or the members of the association and on appropriate activities to be taken. Based on the decisions by the board, the CEO will him-/herself carry out written and oral advocacy activities making use of all appropriate, including web-based, communication channels.

As such, the CEO will act as an advocate for the association and will build upon the outstanding role that the association has established in Europe. By establishing and developing influential contacts and networks within the European Institutions and the electricity industry, the CEO will enable the association to deliver its mission and strategic objectives. This includes representing the association at international conferences and presenting the association’s mission and objectives in a positive way to the relevant stakeholders.

One of the duties of the CEO consists of ensuring that the association delivers specific membership benefits to sustain the membership and encourage membership growth. He or she will propose and draft position papers, participate and provide input for studies and liaise with other associations.

The CEO also develops the strategy and the yearly objectives for the Secretariat. He or she will be expected to achieve concrete and tangible yearly results, including increasing the number of members. In addition the CEO produces an annual budget and manages the association’s resources within the approved budget and in line with the approved guidelines set by the Board.

Likely profile of the applicants:

Applicants should have at least 10 years leadership experience in the European electricity sector and in EU energy policymaking, and will therefore be able to relate as equals to institutional leaders in the energy field. The applicants should have an excellent knowledge of the electricity sector as well as a proven track-record in European energy policy with a clear and ambitious vision of the future EU electricity market. Applicants should be fluent in English and have expert networking skills.
