Aston University is inviting applications for PhD studentships in sustainable catalytic technologies. Studentships are open to all UK and EU nationals possessing an excellent degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (2:1 or 1st Class Honours or equivalent), who will receive standard EPSRC stipends. Scholarship Description: Applications are invited from well-qualified candidates for two fully-funded PhD studentships in heterogeneous catalysis for sustainable chemistry, which are available to start between January and July 2015. Both projects will entail the synthesis and characterisation of novel nanostructured materials for catalytic application to the selective transformation of renewable biomass-derived feedstocks into sustainable platform chemicals and biofuels. Successful candidates will enjoy a stimulating working environment within the recently opened £2.5M Surface Chemistry and Materials Group laboratories, which are housed within the new £18M European Bioenergy Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University.

What does it cover? This studentship includes a fee bursary to cover the home/EU fees rate, plus a maintenance allowance of £13,863 for the 2014/15 academic year.Applicants from outside the EU may apply for this studentship but will need to pay the difference between the ‘Home/EU’ and the ‘Overseas’ tuition fees, currently this is £10,914 for the 2014/15 academic year.
