Technical Officer in Materials Characterisation


£28,695 - £37,394 pa

You will oversee, manage and develop materials characterisation, in particular electron microscopy and surface analysis, in WMG and to interact and support research staff/students and external users with their projects. You will take overall responsibility for training, maintenance and development of the instruments located in departmental materials characterisation facilities, with day-to-day management of both the equipment and the users.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You will possess a PhD or Master’s degree in Materials Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience. You will have the ability to maintain and manager a multi-materials characterisation facility, and be able to manage several projects simultaneously. You will be experienced in characterisation, and in particular have hands-on experience of a minimum of three materials characterisation techniques (SEM, SEM-FIB, SIMS, high temperature XRD, TEM, confocal laser scanning microscopy).
