PhD Position – SPAD for High resolution depthmap

SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode) is the more accurate TOF (Time Of Flight) distance measurement. Some specific issues appear when SPADs are used in matrix to get a depthmap of the scene: sensitivity, compactness, internal speed and integration density are of major concern. Existing SPAD matrix do not allow a large diffusion, although the need is great to improve embedded image treatment efficiency. In order to demonstrate a SPAD compatible with these needs, we will use extensive TCAD (Technology Computed Aided Design)to propose architectures with improved parameters. New structures are to be evaluated yet, they are compatible with the Leti clean room for microelectronics developments. Comparizon between measurements and simulations will be useful to assess the progress ; the final target is the realization and characterization of a SPAD in a matrix, adapted to the TOF distance measurement at video framerate in a typical traffic environment.
