The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 21 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.

Within the Instrumentation Services and Development Division, the Detector and Electronicsgroup is now seeking to recruit an Electronics Technician (m/f)permanent position.

FUNCTION

Within the Electronics Unit composed of about fifteen people, you will occupy a stimulating and empowering position and fulfil missions such as:

  • Technical support and advice to scientists and to the ESRF multidisciplinary teams working on the experimental stations and the accelerator;
  • Selection, testing, characterisation and installation of equipment; production and implementation of instruments;
  • Development projects to be carried out collaboratively or independently (design of electronic boards, development of firmware for the designed hardware, performance evaluation, writing of production and product documentation...);
  • Maintenance in operational condition of the service's laboratories and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

You should hold a degree in electronics (BSc, Licence, HND, HNC, BTS, DUT, Bachelor, Meister, Vordiplom, Perito, Laurea Triennale, Diplomatura, Ingeniera Técnica, etc) or equivalent in a relevant discipline and have 2 to 5 years of professional experience ideally. 

You should be competent in the design of electronic boards, in firmware development and/or electronic instrumentation and ideally demonstrate experience with industrial control equipment. Computer literacy is essential, especially for testing and configuring equipment.

You are able to organise your work independently and to adapt to diverse technical issues thanks to your curiosity, your observation and your listening skills. You are keen to provide high quality service to high-level international users and are motivated to contribute to the ESRF's excellence through your initiative and enthusiasm.

The annual gross salary will be within the range of 26 - 30k€ depending on qualifications and experience, plus possible additional allowances according to status.
