Universität Hamburg invites applications for a
Senior Research Associate (f/m) for experimental accelerator physics
commencing on the next possible date


The position is full-time and is remunerated at the 14 TV-L salary level. The contract should last until July 31, 2020. The short-term nature of this contract is based upon § 2 of the Academic Short-term Contract Act.


Tasks:
Duties include research in the EU synergy grant project:
AXSIS - "Frontiers in Attosecond X-ray Science: Imaging and Spectroscopy"


Area(s) of responsibility:

  • Build up and lead a team "accelerator physics" for the construction of compact and advanced accelerators and X-ray sources
  • Develop and build linear accelerators operating at X-band and THz frequencies
  • Implement interactions of electron beams and high energy and power laser beams acting as optical undulators
  • Support other accelerator-related topics in Professor Kärtner's group
  • Document all developments

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements:

  • A doctoral degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge, abilities or experience
  • Excellent knowledge in accelerator physics and free-electron laser physics: Design, construction and implementation, electron beam and X-ray diagnostics
  • Experience with high-energy and high-power lasers
