Maynooth University, Callan Institute currently seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher for a 12 month contract
Description
The Callan Institute is seeking an experienced researcher in the area of RF systems, and in particular a focus on radio receivers for mobile communications. The successful applicant will also need to play a key role in the development of relationships with our industrial partners. The research is led by Dr. Ronan Farrell, and supported by the SFI Centre for Telecommunications Research (CTVR).
The objective of the position is to work with an existing team to work on exploring wideband receiver technologies for reconfigurable radio systems, in the specific context of LTE-Advanced and similar communications schemes. On a more exploratory angle, we will also be looking at radio frontends for use at 28-30 GHz. In both cases, an expertise in the area of oscillators, low-noise amplifiers and phase-lock-loops would be beneficial. We would be particularly interested in candidates with knowledge of filterless receivers or current-mode low noise amplifiers. We are interested in candidates with expertise in either CMOS-RF or PCB-level designs.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Skills:
• RF circuit design from 700 MHz to 2.6 GHz - either PCB or silicon CMOS;
• Design and use of an appropriate testbeds and measurement equipment;
• Experience with oscillators, low noise amplifiers, and matching networks;
• Excellent communication skills and fluent in English.
Desired Skills:
• Experience of ADS;
• Experience of Labview.
In addition the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the activities of the research institute, specifically collaboration on our projects and assist in the research projects of students where possible. Applicants would benefit from having obtained a PhD in a relevant discipline, however relevant industrial experience is both an acceptable alternative and highly desirable.
