The objective of the project is to study the interfacial contacts between different particles and grains of cements and how the surface steps affect particle-particle interaction.
Description
This research will aim at characterizing the microstructure of different cements by studying the interfacial interactions between particles and grains. In addition fundamental questions will be studies on how steps are formed on the surface of curved crystals, and how such curvatures aid in fusing two such curved particles together in solution.
This PhD research will envisage to answer some of these open questions by utilizing state of the art characterization techniques such as aberration corrected high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (Technion) and high-resolution synchrotron diffraction (ESRF Grenoble France, APS Argonne IL USA).
This PhD student will work in collaboration with groups in WP1 and WP2
