The primary function of this role is to provide advanced technical expertise as an integral member of the Electronic Sustaining Engineering Team, contributing significant input to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Maintenance of Business (MOB) projects in support of complex, electronics-based medical equipment that is manufactured in the Medtronic Galway facility.

Qualifications

As our Principal Electronic/Staff Design Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Provide expertise in electronic/firmware related technologies for all products manufactured in the Galway facility. Act as the primary technical interface to R&D organisations and consultants/research institutions, particularly in relation to product electronics, firmware and software issues. Design, verify, validate and implement product improvements brought about by changes to electronic sub-assemblies
  • Develop the technical and professional capabilities of the Sustaining Engineering Team in relation to relevant technologies and design tools.
  • Provide project leadership to drive assigned projects from concept to implementation to meet the needs of our customers. The project mix will be varied, from quality improvements, cost-savings, and obsolescence to customer complaints resolution, technology transfers and N.P.I. projects.
  • Identify and implement projects to support and develop our products throughout their lifecycle from New Product Introduction to retirement,.
  • Provide electronics and product expertise to support the ventilator production goals of the Galway manufacturing facility.
  • Perform operations in accordance with established safe working procedures, regulations, standards and general safety rules ensuring that attention is given to any special hazards associated with the particular area of work or ongoing project.

As our Principal Electronic/Staff Design Engineer, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Minimum:

  • Degree/Masters in Electronic Engineering. (Preferred, other relevant engineering degree level qualifications will be carefully considered from suitably experienced candidates.)
  • Minimum of 5 + years of relevant experience required.
  • Technology: Familiar with a broad spectrum of sub-systems, ranging from analogue, signal conditioning data acquisition, transducer interfacing, power supply and microprocessor based designs. Ability to research new fields and to work outside core area of competency if needed.
  • Excellent Problem Solving and Investigative Skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the medical device industry or in Analogue/Digital electronic design is particularly desirable, all relevant experience will be considered)
  • Quality Systems: Experience of working in with quality system requirements, within a regulatory framework and formal design controls is desirable.

Other skills

  • Tools: Expertise in circuit analysis and simulation, schematic capture and PCB layout, 2D drafting and project scheduling are all desirable skills.

  • Must be willing to travel, as there will be some travel associates with projects and customer visits.
