PhD Studentship in Engineering: Novel vibration and solar Energy Harvesting for Applications

University of Exeter

About the award

Location: Streatham Campus, University of Exeter, EX4 4QJ

Primary supervisor:  Professor Meiling Zhu

We are inviting applications for a College of Engineering, Mathematical and Physical Sciences funded PhD studentship working within Energy Autonomous Sensing Systems Research Group within the University of Exeter. The aim of the research is to develop novel energy harvesting structures and strategies for wireless communication applications. Your work will include:

• Critical literature review on energy harvesting method and strategies
• Novel vibration and solar energy harvesting strategy and transducer designs
• Modelling and simulation of the designed transducers/strategies
• Prototype and characterise the implemented energy harvesters/strategies

You will have an opportunity to work with the multidisciplinary team of Energy Autonomous Sensing System Group members, and also with the group industrial partners. This will enable you to build your team working skills and personnel profile for your career development in industrial and academic research environments.
