The Quality Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Quality Control Officer.

Description of directorate/division

The Quality Division is responsible for the development and implementation of a Quality Management System at ESS. You will join the Quality Control group within the Quality Division. The Quality Division is in an evolving startup phase. It will act as a support function to the projects during design, construction, commissioning and operation of the ESS facility. The Quality Control Officer will report to the Head of Quality Division.

Description of main responsibilities

The main responsibilities for the Quality Control Officer will initially be to coordinate and support the different project´s quality control activities during the buildup of ESS. Gradually the tasks will transfer to more traditional operational Quality Control activities with particular emphasis on:

  • Responsible for Quality Control review, inspections and records;
  • Maintain the QC-manual, procedures and guidelines;
  • Provide regulatory and technical advice to the projects and ESS organization;
  • Coordinate inspections from Accredited Inspection Bodies;
  • Review and approve the overall Quality Control Plans for the projects;
  • Organize and maintain a document management system for QC records;
  • Support and manage in-kind contributors QC routines;
  • Participate in review board meetings to resolve non-conformance areas;
  • Participate in internal/external audits with a QC perspective;
  • Support the purchase department in QC related issues such as sub-supplier visits;
  • Perform QC Inspections on project deliveries.

The successful applicant will assist in, and be partly responsible for, developing the Quality Control routines and processes at ESS in cooperation with the Head of Quality Division.

Qualifications

To be successful in this position we believe you have a Master in relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent, and at least eight years of work experience in the field of Quality Control. You have a well-developed ability to listen, consult others and to communicate proactively with a high level of integrity. Building wide and effective networks of contacts both inside and outside the organization comes naturally to you. You structure information to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience and writes in a well-structured and logical way. Your focus is on customer needs and satisfaction and you monitor and maintain a high level of quality and productivity in your deliveries. Excellent oral and written English skills and a well-developed ability for both collaborative and independent work are expected.

If you have experience of working in a highly regulated business/organization such as nuclear industry, life science, oil&gas or to ESS related research facilities such as accelerators or neutron sources it is a major advantage.
