Bioinformatics Engineer

J. Craig Venter Institute is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer for our Plant Genomics team who will staff the JCVI component of a multi-center project to integrate genomic and genetic information across a wide range of legume species.

J. Craig Venter Institute (“JCVI”), a dynamic non-profit scientific research organization is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer for our Plant Genomics team. The Bioinformatics Engineer will staff the JCVI component of a multi-center project to integrate genomic and genetic information across a wide range of legume species.  This project will be built around open source GMOD tools including JBrowse, Tripal, Chado and InterMine. The Bioinformatics Engineer will use technology including Apache web servers, Postgres databases, Drupal content management systems, open source development, Git code versioning, Jira issue tracking, and XML and JSON parsing. The Bioinformatics Engineer will help develop web services and protocols.

The ideal candidate will have education or experience in most of these fields: biology and bioinformatics, web technologies, database systems, scripting, software development and testing, configuration management, collaborative development, and problem solving. Previous experience in the area of plant genomics (wet lab or informatics) will be a strong plus for this position.
