The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is a partner institution of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. FIMM is a joint venture of the University of Helsinki, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. FIMM is located on the Meilahti medical campus in Helsinki.

We are looking for a

Web Application Developer

to work on a solution for storing, managing, viewing and analysing “next generation” personal health data and thus help the physicians to make better treatment decisions. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team of biomedical researchers producing next generation health data, bioinformaticians analysing the data and medical doctors trying to use the analysis results in treating the cancer patients as well as IT professionals facilitating the process. You will listen to the wants and figure out the needs of the stakeholders and implement the user interfaces that provide the required utility.

Qualification and experience

  • Track record in developing web applications.
  • Expertise in Javascript, particularly the AngularJS framework as well as charting libraries
  • Knowledge of Perl, its use in building RESTful APIs as well as interacting with MongoDB
  • Knowledge of data structuring and code sets used in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and/or Personal Health Records (PHR) is an asset
  • Knowledge of genes, transcripts, genetic variants and conventions in describing them is appreciated
  • Fluent spoken and written English and preferably also Finnish
  • Good interpersonal skills

Salary and contract

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the university salary system, category “information system specialist”. A contract will be offered initially for one year. Extension beyond one year is possible depending on the availability of funding. If possible, provide links to the web applications that you have developed.
