Structural Engineering Manager Responsible for Offshore Substations

Join us and become Structural Engineering Manager in our offshore team in substations where we are responsible for managing engineering activities for our complex substations from development during execution and installation until handover to operation and maintenance. We are looking for candidates who are eager to make a difference and contribute to the future wind projects.

The department is part of Wind Power which has 1400 employees and is one of four business units in DONG Energy. Wind Power is the world’s largest developer and operator of offshore wind power, and we use our unique knowledge in all phases of our wind turbine projects. During the last 20 years, we have developed and constructed the largest portfolio of offshore wind farms in Northern Europe.

You may choose freely to be based either at our office in Gentofte in the Greater Copenhagen area or at our office in Skærbæk near Fredericia. You should, however, expect some travelling in Denmark and Northern Europe in relation to your work.

Areas of responsibility

As Structural Engineering Manager, you refer to the Project Manager and are responsible for all matters pertaining to structural design, layout, fire & safety, mechanical and interfaces to the Electrical Engineering Manager of our offshore substation. Additionally, you secure that all input and constraints from internal stakeholders are available in due time from feasibility and concept studies to detailed design and follow-up.

It is your responsibility to start up the engineering project and manage engineering contracts, time, budget, resources, quality and designs within this project scope. In the process, you inform Project Management of all significant technical issues, particularly risks, develop contingency plans and be in charge of management of changes in the design and fabrication phases.

Furthermore, your key duties will be to:

  • establish requirements for geotechnical and metocean reports, prepare jacket, topside, fire & safety, mechanical and HVAC design basis for engineering contractors
  • facilitate cooperation with third-party certifying agencies to obtain statements of compliance
  • carry out risk assessments including HAZID workshops in cooperation with the engineering contractor
  • prepare technical requirements for fabrication and installation contract
  • close down the sub-project and prepare technical documentation of design, safety philosophy, inspection plan, decommissioning and abandonment plan as well as operation and maintenance manual.

Your profile

You preferably hold a master of science degree in engineering within structural or offshore engineering and have sound understanding of offshore substations. Moreover, you have extensive experience in designing and/or heading design teams within offshore wind or the oil and gas industry.
