Senior Engineer - Lifting Appliance

Major Duties

The senior engineer will, together with the rest of LA-group be responsible for building the basis and knowledge acting as regional HUB and technical lead within several areas. The senior engineer will build strong connections to vendors and operator service companies, performing design approvals, survey during manufacturing and witnessing of tests as part of traditional product certification. All tasks will be in accordance with specifications, EU directives, Standards for certifications, society rules, etc. The main duties include in particular design review and certification of containers, spreader bars, winches, cranes and other lifting appliances. The senior engineer is responsible for the technical as well as the business result of own work.

You will participate in and/or manage multi-discipline projects which all have focus on team work and close interaction with our clients. The position includes a large variety of projects and offers a great opportunity for personal as well as professional development.

Work responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design assessment - including approval of structural calculations, FEM, operational procedures, FAT documents, Hydraulic, E&I and PLC systems, risk and failure mode analysis etc. (multidiscipline reviews will be shared with other departments)
  • Perform inspections and fabrication surveys on- and offshore including associated reporting
  • Witness of various testing
  • Participate in keeping the section updated with knowledge and competence necessary to undertake work scopes, including contributing and developing on customer relations and portfolio
  • Project management on own minor to medium projects and performance of other project related work
  • Establish global awareness of the HUB, and work towards the position as general technical focal point in the region. Develop the cooperation between fellow offices for sharing the global pool of certification projects

Position Qualifications

We expect that you:

  • Hold an Engineering degree (B.Sc. or equivalent e.g. Marine Engineering)
  • Are able to document experience within some of the following areas; mechanical engineering, manufacturing of products, certification of lifting appliances, Hydraulics, E&I
  • Are self-motivated and result oriented
  • Possess good communication skills and are proactive
  • Can work under pressure from interested parties and manage several ongoing projects
  • Are willing to travel offshore and onshore and at times during peak work load outside normal office working hours
  • Are motivated to stay in other DNV GL units for periods of 1-6 weeks in connection with knowledge sharing programs
