Purpose of the job

To analyse, define and document business processes and to maintain departmental operating procedures, including training of staff. To support the business area in implementing and maintaining business user and departmental business applications. To guide and assist users with their development of business tools and small applications. To customise package business applications using internal scripting languages and to develop small/medium size business applications, tools and interfaces.

Principal accountabilities

  • Undertakes analysis of business processes and documents business requirements for automation of operating procedures. Utilises specialised business/institutional knowledge and technical skills to support end users in the business area in the development and maintenance of business tools and small applications and tools. Implements and customises package applications using internal scripting/macro languages and reporting tools. Develops bespoke small/medium size departmental business applications, interfaces and web based services. Protects the department's business processes by ensuring that the Bank's standards for system documentation, version control, change management, testing and backup/recovery are applied appropriately to departmental development. Undertakes application related administration of designated development environments.
  • Supports tools and applications developed by business users. May be required to provide production support for business applications.
  • Interacts with the other IT groups in the organisation for systems design, integration, standards and change management.
  • Informs Line Manager of major technology trends relevant to the business area for input into IT strategy.
  • Organises his/her own work. May be required by Line Manager to help set objectives for area of responsibility. Maintains records of time spent on various activities in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Keeps Line Manager informed of progress and difficulties in the discharge of duties through regular meetings, status reports, or other mutually agreed-upon methods.
  • Maintains overview of his/her broad technological area of expertise, including market trends, or of changing business needs of a Department or Service. Communicates with colleagues and customers using objective and constructive arguments. Identifies problems and proposes solutions. Represents interest of business area in Bank-wide IT projects. Liaises with external suppliers in area of responsibility and is involved in negotiations as well as definition of terms for provision of their services.
  • Ensures that resources are used in an effective manner within designated area, in cooperation with Line Manager. Proposes investments to Line Manager. Is responsible for cost-effectiveness within area of responsibility.
  • May be required to lead a project team. Ensures that team objectives are met. May be required to coach and train other business support analyst/developers. Brings staff conflicts to the attention of Line Manager.

Qualification and work experience required

  • University-level degree in information management or computer science.
  • Experienced in developing customisations for OpenLink's Findur application using AVS/JVS/Toolkit/OpenComponents.

Skills required

  • Excellent programming skills in both Java and C/C++.
  • Good knowledge of financial instruments.
  • An excellent team player with good communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable liaising with and engaging staff across the organisation at all levels.
  • A hands-on, practical approach.
  • Solid writing skills including the ability to write system and user documentation in English.
