Innovative Technology and Science Limited (InnoTecUK) is a UK based company with diversified expertise in the field of Automation, Sensors and Instrumentations. The Robotics and Automation Division at InnoTecUK specializes in various types of robotic systems for a wide array of industries such as Oil & Gas Off-shore platforms, Petrochemical and Nuclear Power Plants, Wind Turbines, Ships, Storage Tanks, Aircrafts, Buildings, Bridges and Railways. We design, develop and build bespoke robots to suit the needs of our clients.

The company is offering paid studentship opportunities to PhD students currently studying or willing to undertake a PhD in mechatronics/mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

The Role: The student will have to be an open minded, creative and hard-working person who will collaboratively work with the technical team throughout the product development process. The student will work in a dynamic environment and as part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and engineers, with a focus on addressing key challenges in robotics and automation.

InnoTecUK will offer an excellent PhD project that has a unique combination of academic and industrial challenges which will enhance the student’s ability to tackle complex intellectual and practical aspects of mechatronics/mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

Required Skills:

  • First or upper second class degree in mechatronics / robotics / cybernetics / mechanical / manufacturing or related scientific discipline.
  • First rate analytical and numerical skills, with a well rounded academic background.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop mechatronics/precision mechanical devices
  • Ability to develop kinematic and/or dynamic analysis of mechanical/robotic systems
  • Ability to simulate of complex mechatronics and to use finite element modelling
  • Ability to implement control and kinematics with hardware - in- the – loop
  • Proficiency in CAD environments. (SolidWorks/CATIA, etc.)
  • Background with relevant packages, e.g. Matlab, C++, LabView, Solid Work
  • A driven, professional and self-dependent work attitude is essential for the successful candidate
  • Experience of working within industry will be an advantage
  • The ability to produce high quality presentations and written reports

On Offer:

  • The studentship on offer (to eligible students) comprises a tax-free stipend of £13,000 a year, tuition fees paid and a generous study package (e.g. research consumables, travel budget and industrial training when appropriate).
  • A generous, fully-funded PhD programme, that integrates an industry based doctoral research project with research training in technical subjects and interdisciplinary skills.
  • Supervision from international leaders in robotics for in-situ processing technologies.

 Eligibility: Only UK/EU Higher Education “Home Fee” status applicants and EU residents satisfying the three-year residency requirement are eligible. Non UK/EU residents may also apply, but they will be required to pay their course fee.
