Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics (ELI-NP), a new Center for Scientific Research for a broad range of science domains: fundamental physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, applications in material science, life sciences and nuclear materials management. Objectives: •Building the facility (2013-2014) •Purchasing the two major pieces of Equipment: two high power lasers and the gamma beam system (2013- 2017) •Preparing the TDRs for the experiments and auxiliary laboratories •Promoting the future multidisciplinary research opportunities of ELI-NP to users •Defining and implementing the conditions necessary for the future operation Implementation phase of the Project: to ensure the timely delivery and the commissioning of the two systems, their integration with the construction. The design and development of the ELI-NP experimental areas will be performed. Operational phase: pursuing the scientific program of ELI-NP and maintaining the best performance of the systems.

Position Description
In the implementation phase, ELI-NP engineers/physicists will provide technical support for ELI-NP in correlation with the technological strategy, focusing mainly on ensuring the commissioning of the infrastructure and its further operation.
In the operational phase, the engineer/physicist specialised in Particle Accelerators – Equipment and Operation will ensure the operation of the Gamma Beam System.
Main responsibilities:
In the implementation phase:
• The engineer/physicist in charge with the Gamma Beam System will gather the knowledge and experience necessary to ensure the operation of the infrastructure and of the related equipment. In this context, he will benefit from training provided by the suppliers of the equipment regarding the assembling, testing and commissioning of the equipment. Therefore, the candidates will have to be available to travel and work abroad for a determined period of time;
• Ensuring the best and efficient collaboration and dialogue between the research staff and the suppliers of the respective equipment and various services;
• Ensuring the conformity of the activities with the standards in the field.
In the operational phase:
• Maintaining the performances of the Gamma Beam System;
• Actively participating in the technological development activities performed at ELI-NP;
Main tasks:
• Actively participating in the activity of monitoring the fulfilment of contractual obligations related to the Gamma Beam System;
• Providing technical assistance upon delivery-taking of various deliverables;
• Participating in the installation and commissioning of the various equipment and their further use;
• Supervising the operation of the equipment and of the buildings after commissioning;
• Ensuring the operation of the Gamma Beam System;
• Actively and efficiently involving in dialogue and communication within the ELI-NP team and promoting a harmonious collaboration framework.

Competencies and experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Physics/ Engineering Physics in ELI-NP related fields;
• Minimum 3 years of experience in technical support within research and development laboratories;
• Very good knowledge of the technologies relevant to ELI-NP;
• Expertise and experience in Linac RF structures (Radio-Frequency), in operating, controlling and maintaining accelerators;
• Experience with medical and industrial linear accelerators;
• Experience in designing the RF of linear accelerators and/or other RF structures;
• Experience in working with magnetrons, klystrons and high voltage power supplies;
• Familiarity with specific laboratory instruments, including with network analysers;
• Experience in electromagnetic phenomena simulation codes such as HFSS, Microwave Studio;
• Experience in simulations of beam dynamics in linear accelerators and other RF structures using codes such as PARMELA or GPT;
• Experience in using instruments for particle beam diagnosis and characterisation;
• Basic knowledge of radiation physics and radioprotection rules;
• Fluency in English;
• Proven teamwork experience and efficient communication and collaboration skills.
