Local Unit & Position Description

The purpose of the role is to deliver an efficient and effective Marine Warranty Engineering service into customer organisations in order to secure repeat business and project targets for the MWS Engineering business line. The Senior Warranty Surveyor will lead a team of engineers, based in Aberdeen/London, who will undertake various marine warranty engineering related activities on behalf of insurers and Oil and Gas Companies, including: transportation and installation engineering, loadout engineering, structural design, subsea/pipeline engineering, in the offshore oil and gas sector and will spend approximately 75% of their time undertaking chargeable engineering warranty work. The remainder is expected to be spent mentoring and preparing bids. The role is mainly office based but some site and offshore work will be required.

  • To be responsible for ensuring personal safety and that of direct report staff and subcontractors working for the company.
  • To be responsible for meeting the project schedule and budget for MWS projects.
  • To collaborate with Mariners regarding operational and specialist marine matters.
  • Ensure that the project is delivered in accordance with the highest technical standards and current codes and standards, where necessary collaborating with the DNV-GL Technical Policy Board.
  • Ensuring that MWS Engineering activities are completed in accordance with client contract requirements including project administration, change control, progress reporting towards the client and invoicing.
  • Management of MWS Engineering projects, including: delegating certain projects/tasks, briefing project staff, risk management, ensuring applicable standards and laws are followed, liaising with clients, technical delivery and liaising with Technical Authorities, report writing, checking, authorisation, submission.
  • Preparation of bids for MWS Engineering ITT’s in conjunction with the MWS Engineering Manager and the Heads of Engineering Assurance and Marine Consulting as appropriate.

Seeking an experienced engineer to manage and perform Marine Warranty engineering for offshore oil and gas installation projects.

Position Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer, structural, civil, mechanical, Naval Architect or Sub-sea. Also Mariners would be of interest.
  • Experience in developing commercial and technical proposals.
  • Have offshore/offshore construction/marine experience in any of the following areas: vessel design/operation, transport and installation, heavy lift, subsea and/or pipeline installation.
  • Working knowledge of LOGIC 2003 contracts is desirable.
  • Role is office based but candidate will need to be flexible to travel abroad and to offshore locations for periods of time.
  • Will possess up to date knowledge of Loadout, Installation and transportation methods, codes of practice, Rules and Guidelines.
  • Have a keen interest and aptitude for mentoring junior staff.
  • Have excellent client relationship and communication skills.
  • Have experience of delivering large Projects within schedule and on budget and can demonstrate a proven ability for project management.
  • Experience of managing project budgets and schedule including invoicing and management of change.
