IOB PhD Studentship: Molecular dynamics computer simulation of biological systems

Queen Mary, University of London - Institute of Bioengineering

The QMUL Institute of Bioengineering is a new cross-faculty initiative bringing together over 50 academics from the faculties of Medicine & Dentistry and Science & Engineering. The Institute provides a focus for ground-breaking research aimed at the development of new medical therapeutics and diagnostics to meet the key healthcare challenges of the 21st century.

Project Details: This project will focus on molecular dynamics computer simulation of peptides, particularly in relation to self-assembly and interaction with lipid membranes. The project will be exclusively computational and will be conducted within the research group of Dr Mario Orsi (http://www.orsi.sems.qmul.ac.uk). Simulation results will be validated in collaboration with the experimental group of Dr Helena Azevedo (http://www.sems.qmul.ac.uk/staff/?h.azevedo). Candidates must have a good degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, chemistry, or related disciplines. Programming skills and experience with computer simulation are highly desirable.

Supervisors: Dr Mario Orsi (1st supervisor), Dr Helena Azevedo (2nd supervisor)
