Web Developer

The Regional Environmental Center (REC) is an independent international organisation that works in various fields of sustainable development in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. The REC has its head office in Szentendre, Hungary, and a network of offices in 17 countries with a dedicated international staff. 

The following position is open at the REC’s head office:

Web Developer, Publishing

General responsibilities

  • Working closely with the REC Publishing Department in activities concerning REC communications and website development.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of REC country office websites.
  • Designing and maintaining new websites.
  • Developing new features in CMSMS (http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/) or Joomla! content management systems.
  • Ensuring that all web pages are consistent with the REC’s graphical standards and publishing policies.

Knowledge, work experience and skill levels required

  • Good knowledge of PHP & MySQL programming languages.
  • Good knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.
  • In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Knowledge of CMSMS, Joomla or WordPress and Smarty PHP template engine is an asset.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in the area of web development.
  • Excellent HTML and Internet skills, including social media marketing;
  • A strong understanding of UI, cross-browser compatibility, and general web functions and standards.
  • Experience in JavaScript, JQuery or Ajax in the Linux/Apache environment is an asset.
  • Fluency in English and excellent English writing skills (knowledge of one or more local languages in the REC’s network is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexibly and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Keen attention to detail is a must.

Education

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Arts or other relevant field, such as Mathematics, IT and/or Environmental Sciences is required.

This full-time position is based at the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary. The position is for a fixed period of one year, with the possibility of extension.
