The Thule Institute at the University of Oulu, Finland, is announcing a two-year

Project planner

position to work on the international Arctic research project planning and preparing of related  funding applications.

The project planner will support the University of Arctic Thematic Networks Director in practical activities related to the University of Arctic Research Liaison Office and Thematic Networks Office (located at the Thule Institute), such as meeting arrangements and secretarial work (minutes of the meeting). He/she also takes care of collection of information related to funding applications and reporting, and provides support in preparation of applications and reports.  The project planner is also responsible of information distribution, communications, general level guidance, website updates and other information relevant to collaborators, project partners and other stakeholders, and representation of Research Liason Office at institutional and national level.

The position requires basic knowledge on application preparation (particularly EU and NCM), social and language skills, as well as knowledge on website maintenance. Good command of English is required as the working language is mainly English. The knowledge on Arctic organizations and topical Arctic research questions is regarded as an advantage. A successful candidate should also be able to travel if work tasks require it.

  • Start date: March 1st 2015 (negotiable).
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Location of work: Oulu, Finland.
  • Eligibility: a Masters degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • Salary:  on level 7 of the national salary scale for the other staff of Finnish universities. In addition, supplementary remuneration will be given for personal achievement and performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 46.3% of the salary scale. In practice, the salary will be about 2500€ at the start of the working period.

UArctic (University of the Arctic, uarctic.org) was created through an initiative of the Arctic Council (Iqaluit Declaration 1998) and was officially launched in 2001.   • UArctic Research Office (Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Russia) provides information resources to support the development of research activities across the network.
  • UArctic Thematic Networks Office (Thule Institute at the University of Oulu, Finland) supports Thematic Networks, which link educational, research and outreach activities in key issue areas.

UArctic Thematic Networks coordination office is led by Research Coordinator, Thematic Networks Director Kirsi Latola and thus the linkage between UArctic Research Area and Thematic Networks is close. The new project planner will work closely with V-P Research, TN Director as well as with the Research Liaison Office Coordinator Hannele Savela.

The Thule Institute is a research centre of the University of Oulu which focuses on the multidisciplinary research and doctoral training in the fields of environmental, northern and Arctic issues and natural resources. Thule Institute is known in the international Arctic and Polar arenas and organizations, and Director Kari Laine represents Finland in Arctic organizations such as International Arctic Science Committee and European Polar Board.
