Job title: Communication Officer 2 (scale 8)

The Center for European Studies (CES), part of the Student Service Centre, is looking for a part-time Communication Officer who will also be responsible for attracting more students from the US for our programmes.

The Center for European Studies (CES) provides comprehensive, English-language study abroad programmes for international students. Welcoming approximately 450 students a year, CES prides itself on providing the best possible European study abroad experiences inside and outside the classroom. We offer an interesting and stimulating position in a dynamic and international setting.

Main Responsibilities
The new employee will be expected to carry a high degree of responsibility for their own duties, will be able to handle tasks efficiently and accurately and manage their time well. Main responsibilities are:

  • Co-designing and producing internal and external communication media such as brochures, advertisements, website, social media, student handbook and online databases;
  • Student recruitment and acquisition of new partner universities abroad;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating the organisation’s communication plan;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating the organisation’s alumni policy.

  • Openness to cultural diversity is essential; the new employee knows how to handle issues relating to cultural differences in an efficient and professional manner and is able to demonstrate a very high level of interpersonal skills;
  • High organisational sensitivity: recognises and takes into account the opinions and sensitivities that are present in the organisation and knows to address the right person, making sure to go through the correct communication channels;
  • Very client and service-oriented;
  • Creative, proactive, outgoing and able to think outside the box;
  • Willingness to travel abroad (outside of Europe) approximately twice per year;
  • Excellent IT know-how: experience with Microsoft Office, Photoshop and social media. Has a track record of using social media which has led to measurable positive results;
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent communication skills, both written and spoken. Applications from non-fluent speakers will not be considered;
  • Intimate knowledge of the US higher education system and able to relate to CES’ student population. Experience within this field as a student employee or volunteer at a US university’s study abroad office is an absolute plus;
  • Bachelor degree (at least equivalent to Dutch HBO level), preferably in the field of communication/PR/marketing/journalism.

This is a temporary position for 1 year with a view to extension/increased hours.
