Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in Optics and Photonics to work with Professors Gordon Love and John Girkin in the Department of Physics at Durham University.

The EPSRC will pay the fees and cover the usual student stipend for 3.5 years from October 2015. 

The Centre for Advanced Instrumentation is one of the leading centres World-wide for research into Adaptive Optics with topics ranging from astronomy, to ophthalmic optics.

We are seeking a physicist or engineer with an interest in optics to pursue a PhD in ophthalmic optics using adaptive optics. The specific project will depend on the interests of the students but will potential involve measuring accommodation in the eye (the ability to focus) and/or new ways to measure people¹s eyesight.

It is likely to involve collaboration with (and potentially travel to) collaborators at Oxford, Bangor (UK) and UC Berkeley (USA).

Applicants should have or expect to attain a good (first or upper second class) honours degree in physics, engineering or a related subject.
