Job Description
ELIXIR is seeking an experienced Data Coordinator/Chief Data Officer to join the dynamic and international team at the ELIXIR Secretariat in Hinxton, UK. The ELIXIR Hub is located at EMBL-EBI, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, and has excellent facilities in an attractive campus environment in the Cambridgeshire countryside with transport provided to nearby Cambridge and Saffron Walden.
ELIXIR is a unique undertaking that consolidates Europe’s core bioinformatics resources, services, and national centres into a single, coherent infrastructure. Strong collaboration between our distributed Nodes will address current life-science data challenges that include quality curation of data, interoperable service interfaces and long-term sustainability of data resources.

The main purpose of this role is to work with ELIXIR Nodes to ensure the coordination and long-term viability of ELIXIR data services through collaborative development and execution of ELIXIR’s data management and interoperability strategy. The role-holder will drive development and implementation of best practice in data management across ELIXIR. The ELIXIR Data Coordinator is also expected to take the lead role in the development of ELIXIR’s data access and data security strategy in collaboration with technical experts from Nodes and e-infrastructures. The ELIXIR Data Coordinator/Chief Data Officer will also work with other Research Infrastructures and e‐Infrastructures to identify and develop strong collaborations.

Qualifications and Experience
University degree in the field of life-science, computer science, or another rigorous discipline with solid interest and experience of bioinformatics/medical informatics research. An advanced degree in one these fields is a plus.
Knowledge and Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in an informatics intensive research environment. Life science experience and solid understanding of biological and/or medical data integration is a strong asset;
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate technical teams in a distributed environment to deliver against challenging goals and timelines;
- Robust understanding and experience from data-intensive high performance computing with demonstrated ability to predict and project technical developments and needs;
- Familiarity with network technologies, database management systems and data integration techniques including semantic data integration;
- Experience in developing standards and data repositories;
- Demonstrated understanding of information security vulnerabilities and risk management;
- Strong interest in data issues both from a user perspective and from an infrastructure perspective.
