PhD student health economics

The Centre for Health Economics Research and Modelling Infectious Diseases (CHERMID) is part of the Vaccine & Infectious Disease Institute (VAXINFECTIO) at the University of Antwerp (UA) in Belgium. CHERMID is a multidisciplinary research centre conducting methodological and applied research on mathematical modelling and the economics of public health, mainly vaccination. VAXINFECTIO, including CHERMID, is involved in several European Commission funded projects and is Collaborating Centre of the World Health Organization. As part of a research project involving survey- and model-based analyses on perceptions of risks, social justice and cost-effectiveness of vaccination and eradication strategies we are seeking applications for a position of:

PhD student health economics

Profile

Essential: Masters degree in Economic sciences (eg, Applied, Social or Health Economics, Commercial Engineering), psychology or sociology
Very good study track record
Good statistical skills
Good communicative skills, collaborative and multidisciplinary interest
Thorough knowledge of English, both oral and written
Thorough knowledge of Dutch and/or French

Function

Undertake literature reviews, and develop surveys to study risk perceptions regarding infectious diseases and vaccination, and conduct discrete choice experiments
Use and help develop simulation modeling tools to estimate the cost-effectiveness of vaccination strategies
Collaborate closely with other researchers with complementary skills
Written and oral reporting of study results in the national and international scientific community
Writing and defending a PhD thesis
Developing new research proposals in this field

Start date: first semester of 2015
