JOB DESCRIPTION

Head of Instrumentation Services and Development Division (ISDD) (m/f) Permanent contract

As Head of the Instrumentation Services and Development Division, you will report to the Director General. You will direct the heads of the different groups, follow the progress of major projects, and be responsible for the division's budget. You will represent the ISDD on the Board of ESRF Directors, and coordinate the directives and information received. Your duties will also include liaising with the Administration Division for the management of human resources and budgetary matters, and with the other divisions, groups and services of the ESRF. In addition, you will have the responsibility to promote and represent the ESRF at conferences, workshops and similar events.

The Instrumentation Services and Development Division (ISDD) is responsible for the design, construction and support of instrumentation at the ESRF, for both the beamlines and the accelerator complex. It is composed of over 130 skilled scientists, engineers and technicians. It is structured into five groups including Advanced Analysis and Modelling, Detectors and Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Software and X-Ray Optics. The activities of the division are centred on instrumentation development and support for the ESRF's other divisions, and in particular for the Accelerator and Source Division and the Experiments Division. The successful candidate will lead the ISDD with the objective of maintaining the technological and scientific advances of the ESRF in the domain of innovative instrumentation for synchrotron radiation research, with particular reference to the instrumentation projects planned in the ongoing Upgrade Programme. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You should have a degree and Ph.D. in physical science or engineering or equivalent. You should have substantial research experience and recognized experimental/instrumental skills in synchrotron radiation-related science and techniques.

Management experience is essential; this should include planning, organising, communication, and analysis. You should have demonstrated initiative, autonomy, and leadership. Your ability to establish a strong team-spirit culture will be a major advantage.

You will possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English, while knowledge of French will be a valuable asset.
