in a 4-year project financed by the Academy of Finland. The aim of the project is to combine mass spectrometry imaging and ion mobility spectrometry to create multidimensional data from complex samples within seconds. The technology developed in the project will be used to analyse authentic biological tissues and cells, and it can have major impact in fields, such as medicine, biology, pharmacy, forensics, and food and environmental research.

The applications are invited for a fixed term from 1 March to 31 December 2018. The position will be filled with 4 months trial period.

The duties of the doctoral student include postgraduate studies, and research aiming for doctoral dissertation. The doctoral student will be actively involved in the development of new methods for mass spectrometry imaging, and their application in the analysis of authentic biological samples. The research will mainly take place at the mass spectrometry laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy in an internationally highly recognized Modern Analytical Chemistry research group. The research interests of the group are focused on mass spectrometry, chromatography, microchip technology and metabolism analysis. The work includes research visits to collaboration laboratories abroad, teaching and other activities in the Faculty.

The doctoral student must hold a M.Sc. or a corresponding degree in the field of analytical or physical chemistry, pharmacy, biochemistry, engineering, physics or equivalent. Experience in mass spectrometry or instrument building is considered an asset. The salary of the doctoral student is based on requirement levels 2-4 of the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. At the beginning of the employment period the doctoral student’s salary will range from €2100 to €2700 gross per month, depending on experience.
