PhD in Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy as a Process Analytical Technology

Project Description (300 words max):
The student recruited to this project will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop a LIBS solution for characterising powder properties. The overall project objective is to develop and characterise novel PAT technologies for control and optimisation of dairy powder and infant formula manufacturing. Specifically the project will be to develop and characterise new PAT tools, namely Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Guided Microwave Spectroscopy(GMS), for powder processing. 
A strong interest in technology development for chemical engineering is required. 
Experience and /or interest in chemical engineering or optics is desirable.
