General Manager Global Supply Chain

Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) is a world-leading turnkey contractor and operator of medium and large scale diesel-, biomass- and biogas power plants. We are currently constructing or operating power plants in, amongst others, UK, Lebanon, Cayman Islands Kenya and Sri Lanka.

The company’s experience and expertise ranges from every aspect of plant design, engineering and construction to rehabilitation, operation, maintenance, project development and financing.


Global Supply Chain is one of five functions in the Contracting division of BWSC. Global Supply Chain comprises three departments with a total of 18 employees: Logistics, Purchasing, and Warehouses. At present BWSC’s annual purchasing amounts to EUR 120-150 millions.


The General Manager Global Supply Chain refers to the Director Contracting and is overall responsible for project purchasing and logistics, including:

  • BWSC’s overall procurement strategy.
  • Ensuring that the necessary resources and competences are present in Global Supply Chain in order to ensure high quality and professionalism in all of Global Supply Chain’s deliverables.
  • Ensuring up-to-date knowledge within Global Supply Chain on commercial issues in the market and legal aspects on standards and regulations within power plant technology.
  • Developing new suppliers in Competitive Cost Countries.
  • In close cooperation with the project teams, ensure timely procurement of project equipment and materials meeting project time schedule and budget.
  • Handling of supplier/sub-contractor bonds and invoices.
  • Commercial communication with suppliers.
  • Receiving equipment at Warehouse or at suppliers and subsequent packing.
  • Everything related to logistics, including heavy-lift-, container-, break-, bulk-, and flight transport of goods from supplier until safe arrival at the construction site, including customs clearance.
  • Proactively contribute to inter disciplinary tasks and development projects, including Enterprise Resource Planning in BWSC.
  • Continuously identify best practice of Global Supply Chain based on an internal and external benchmark.

The General Manager Supply Chain is a member of the Contracting Management Team and must be able to contribute to the team on a strategic level. 

Doing business globally means international travel activity, typically around 30-40 days a year
to meet and visit sub-suppliers (new potential as well as existing), sites, local authorities, etc. as well as follow-up on main deliveries and major logistics operations.

Relocation to Denmark is a job prerequisite.


The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate has an educational background in technology – preferably supplemented by a commercial diploma within international trade or logistics. Further the ideal candidate has 5-7 years leadership experience in purchasing and logistics (or in project management) preferably in a high technology or entrepreneurial company. The ideal candidate can demonstrate mastery of spoken and written English.


The ideal candidate is a well-organised person who is:

  • Structured - and able to organise complex fragments.
  • An excellent communicator who is able to communicate at all levels of the organization and with clients and sub-suppliers.
