"This Project aims to develop materials, devices and technologies to study ageing processes and age-related diseases of cardiac, bone and brain tissue.

The operating unit UNICAL will develop, optimize, manufacture, and validate dynamic perfusion bioreactors, equipped with hollow fibre membranes or with 3D porous scaffolds, designed and operated so as to function as models of healthy and diseased aged bone tissue. Mesenchymal stem cells will be seeded in the 3D scaffolds or in between the membranes, and will be cultured in the presence of biochemical and fluid-dynamic cues which induce their proliferation in the undifferentiated state and then their differentiation to the healthy and diseased aged bone phenotype. Such models will permit to study the mechanisms of ageing, and to test toxicity and efficacy of drugs for the cure of age-related bone diseases."

Eligibility criteria

Candidates´ evaluation to assign the post-doc position is based on their degrees, CV, publications, previous scientific activity and English skills. Criteria will be defined by the evaluation Committee and have to assign max 70points to degrees, CV, publications, and previous scientific activity, and max 30 points to the oral discussion in which CV, publications, previous scientific activity and candidate suitability to the research project will be discussed as in the call. Candidates are admitted to the oral discussion only if they score at least 40 out of 70 points in the evaluation of their CV, publications and previous scientific activity.

Selection process

Before starting the contest, the evaluation Committee define criteria and parameters to evaluate candidates´ degrees, CV, publications, previous scientific activity some of which are also acknowledged internationally. The Committee proceeds to evaluating candidates´ degrees, CV, publications and previous scientific activity. The candidates with a minimal 40/70 score are admitted to the oral discussion in which the Committee evaluates the candidate´s capacity to work on the selected research topics. The oral discussion will take place in a public hall. Candidate pass the oral screening if they are awarded a minimal 21/30 score. Then, the Committee ranks the candidates and selects the winner of the contest.
