Denmark : Two PhD scholarships in Integrated Power Electronics

Two 3-year PhD scholarships are available at DTU Electrical Engineering at Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

DTU Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) conducts research within acoustics, antennas, biomedical engineering, electric technology, physical electronics, playware, power electronics, and robotics. An important part of this research is carried out in close cooperation with the industry and international research institutions.

Responsibilities and tasks
The PhD projects seeks to develop a highly integrated offline AC/DC converter and is carried out in collaboration between DTU Electrical Engineering and the new spin-out/start-up company Nordic Power Converters (NPC). To achieve this, a large part of the electronics in the offline converter must be monolithically integrated into one or two integrated circuits in advanced high-voltage processes. The primary focus in the two PhD projects is to develop the integrated circuits for this.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a MSc in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the MSc in engineering. It is an advantage if candidates have several of the following qualifications:

  • You know CMOS processes and preferably have knowledge about high voltage CMOS processes
  • You have experience in analysis and synthesis of analog integrated circuits
  • You have experience with high frequency design
  • You know the MOS transistor at a detailed level
  • You have experience using Cadence and have used DRC and LVS tools
  • You have experience with power converters or radio frequency amplifiers
  • You have experience in performing measurements in integrated circuits
  • You are good at organizing your tasks and can work independently with these
  • You have good analytical skills
  • You speak and write English at a high level

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Assessment
The assessment of the applicants will be made by Associate Professor Ivan Jørgensen.
