A post doc position in organisational health and safety in the garment industry in Bangladesh is available at Center for Industrial Production (CIP), Department of Business and Management at Aalborg University, Copenhagen Campus. The position is open for appointment from 1st February 2015 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of four years. About CIP Center for Industrial Production (CIP) hosts around 50 employees at Aalborg and Copenhagen Campus. Since its inception CIP has been committed to serve as a national centre of excellence in industrial manufacturing. CIP Copenhagen is in the process of building up a research environment focusing on service industries. CIP is dedicated to applied research and collaborates closely with a range of Danish companies and public organizations. Job description

CIP has in collaboration with partners in Bangladesh received funding for a large project on upgrading of productivity and occupational health and safety (OHS) among suppliers in the garment industry in Bangladesh.  The project focuses on the how the linkages between European and Danish buyers and their subcontractors influence the OHS conditions among the suppliers and on how it is possible to establish synergies between productivity enhancement and improvements in OHS among the suppliers. The project is funded by Danida and will be carried out in close collaboration between CIP, Bangladeshi stakeholders and stakeholders in both Bangladesh and Denmark. The research has a strong empirical component and combines qualitative and quantitative research methodologies as well as combines knowledge within the fields of operations management (e.g. productivity, supply chain management and OHS) and organisation/management theories. The post doc will carry out the research in collaboration with colleagues at CIP and the Bangladeshi partners. In addition the post doc will participate in teaching at CIP, Copenhagen Campus, which runs master programmes in Operation and Innovation Managements and a bachelor programme in Manufacturing and Operations Engineering.

Qualification requirements: 
A relevant Ph.D.-degree (operations management or similar), competencies within management studies, hands on experience from manufacturing (although not necessarily from within the garment industry) and skills within both qualitative and quantitative methods.  A keen interest in cross-disciplinary teamwork and collaboration is also essential. Experience from research focusing on working conditions/OHS considered an advantage but is not a requirement.

Applicants are expected to have well-honed cross-cultural communication skills as well as the ability to work within an international team-based culture. Successful candidates have well developed research, teaching, public speaking and writing skills, and are proficient in Danish and English. It is also important that the candidate demonstrates an ability to work structured and with limited supervision. The candidate should be willing to travel and stay in Bangladesh for extended periods during the entire project.

Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.

Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance’s current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics or the collective agreement for academics under the Danish Society of Engineers’ (IDA) and the Danish Association of Chartered Surveyors’ (DDL) negotiation areas.
