Ref MH-18 Senior Engineer

The Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork is looking for a self-driven, hands on technical leader in analogue circuit design with relevant experience from industry or from an academic research environment. Title, responsibility level and remuneration will be in accordance with the candidate’s experience.



The initial application area will be ICT for energy efficiency but no experience in this area is necessary once the candidate shows adequate experience and aptitude in the innovative design and implementation of analogue circuits (e.g. comprising op amps, microcontrollers, discrete circuits, DC/DC converters, low power management circuits, etc.)

The candidate will initially work on a portfolio of existing national and EU projects before progressing to participating in proposals and new projects.

Responsibilities



• Deliver innovative analogue circuit solutions for high industry impact projects and proposals Reporting to the ICT for Energy Efficiency Senior Program Manager the candidate will:

• Execute duties in accordance with terms and conditions of the project consortium agreements.

• Maintain engineering logs (hard copy and software) of all activities including engineering documents, meetings, reviews, results, IP generated, project correspondence, etc in accordance to Tyndall’s ISO900 procedures.

• Generate quality publications (journal, posters, conference papers) and/or patents.

• Travel to/attend project meetings, workshops & dissemination events with academic & industry partners to present technical results and project updates.

• Support installation, troubleshooting, validation etc. of the models and circuits developed.

• Create proposals for new and follow on EU & industry specific projects.

• Provide mentoring/leadership to other Tyndall staff in analogue circuit design and simulation.

Requirements

• The candidate must have at least 5 years (preferably 10 years or more) relevant experience in the design, simulation, testing and system integration of low power analogue electronic circuits.

• Some knowledge of wireless sensors and/or energy harvesting would be advantageous but not critical. Experience in mixed signal IC design would also be of considerable value.

• The candidate needs to be practical, assertive and achievement orientated.

• Good self-management, report writing skills and communication skills for interaction with project and proposal partners is essential. It is also essential that technical and project status reports are delivered in a timely manner in accordance with project terms. 

• Excellent communication skills are essential.

• A proven ability to work well in a team and to ability to work on his/her own initiative to solve technical, logistical and systems integration is critical.

• The need to work flexible hours is required and to be adaptable in working practice is essential.
