The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture has a vacancy for a position of post-doctoral assistant: It concerns a temporary full-time position for renewable period of three year.

A position of post-doctoral assistant at the Department of Civil Engineering (EA15) – salary at 100%: min. € 29.069,73 – max. € 45.317,25 (at present paid out at  160,84%)

Profile of the candidate

  • hold a PhD in Maritime Engineering  or a degree recognized as equivalent (this requirement has to be fulfilled at the appointment date);
  • have research experience in the field of ship hydrodynamics, more specifically the hydrodynamic behaviour of ships in shallow and restricted waters, provided by scientific publications in international and national peer reviewed journals and/or books;
  • having actively participated in international and national scientific conferences relevant to the field concerned;
  • be profoundly interested in guiding students in Bachelor’s and (advanced) Master’s programmes;
  • having experience in physical and numerical modelling in this teaching and research area is recommendable;

Job description

  • to conduct scientific research in the discipline of ship hydrodynamics, emphasizing the development of mathematical models for the purpose of ship manoeuvring simulation in shallow and restricted waters and experimental techniques used in this area;
  • to provide assistance in the teaching duties of the department in Bachelor’s and (advanced) Master’s programmes;
  • to provide assistance in the scientific research of the department

(the total amount of academic and administrative duties will be limited to maximum 30% of the assignment).

The period during which the applicant received a grant from a University of the Flemish community for preparing a PhD, or during which he/she was employed as a junior assistant, will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is 6 years according to the university decree.
