Postdoc position in machine learning/ software engineering at the Department of Information Processing Science at the University of Oulu – Finland

The Department of Information Processing Science at the University of Oulu (http://www.oulu.fi/tol/) is seeking a candidate for a three-year postdoctoral research position, starting March 2015. The successful applicant will carry out their postdoc in the research area of machine learning applied to software prediction problems. This research is part of a recently granted Tekes’ Finnish Distinguished Professor (FiDiPro) application, to be led by Professor Emilia Mendes (FiDiPro Visiting Professor) in collaboration with Professor Burak Turhan (University of Oulu).

The specific requirements for this postdoc position are the following:

  • A Completed PhD in Computer Science (Machine Learning)
  • Solid programming experience in an object-oriented programming language.
  • Very good English skills (writing, speaking)
  • A promising publication record including at least two fully-refereed journal papers.

The University of Oulu is one of the largest universities in Finland with an exceptionally wide academic base. Department of Information Processing Science (TOL) is one of the largest departments in the university, and provides academic education programmes in software engineering and information systems. The main focus of the research of the Department is on the development and use of new software and information technologies and services within software products, development processes and other company functions, with the emphasize on the problems experienced by the software industry. Special attention is in embedded software, telecommunication systems, industrial automation, and services based on and supported with them. The main research themes of the department include empirical software engineering, business processes, software process and quality techniques, assessment and development of software processes and services, software and systems development methodologies, collaborative development, distributed teamwork, user interfaces and usability, virtual reality technologies, and software business and economy.

Salary

The salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be set on levels 5–6 of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, supplementary remuneration will be given for personal achievement and performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 46.3% of the salary scale. In practice, the salary will be about 3300 – 4000€ at the start of the period.
