Postdoctoral Fellow in Atmospheric Aerosols, Cyprus Institute (CyI), Cyprus (2015)

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the Cyprus Institute are represented by three research centers: the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC).

The EEWRC addresses research issues of global significance in the fields of energy, environment and water, with a focus on their specific regional, East-Mediterranean manifestations. Its research agenda focuses on the great challenges related to: the specification of mitigation and adaptation strategies necessitated by climate change, a reduced dependence on hydrocarbon energy sources and achieving a low carbon economy through the employment of renewables (solar) and enabling a sustainable management of water and other natural resources in arid and semi-arid environments.

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Aerosol Science and Technology with a focus on Atmospheric Aerosols at its Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC).

Position Description
The Post-doctoral Fellow will be involved in setting up instruments and experimental systems for measuring the properties of atmospheric aerosol particles. These systems will be employed in field campaigns and laboratory measurements to study intrinsic aerosol particle properties that can affect human health and climate. Apart from the experimental tasks, the role of the postdoctoral researcher will be to analyze the measurements as well as to summarize and present his/her findings in conference and journal publications.

Responsibilities
- To develop/assemble instruments and experimental systems
- To run field and laboratory measurements
- To analyse measurements
- To write journal publications with his/her results
- To present his/her results at conferences

Minimum Qualifications
- PhD in one of the following fields:
Chemical and/or mechanical engineering
Aerosol Science and Technology
Particle Physical Chemistry
- Leading author in at least two journal publications
- Experience with at least two conference presentations
- Familiarity with computational packages (e.g. Matlab)
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
