Job description

It is well-recognized that Internet users are facing an overload of information arisen as a consequence of the continuous growth of social networks, sensor data and associated applications. This puts forward a problem of providing users with relevant data. A great variety of recommender systems has been proposed over the last years. However, in order to get meaningful recommendations users are required to reveal their profiles (interests, tastes and ratings). This contradicts with the increasing concern people have shown with regard to exposing private data to untrusted parties. What should be prioritized: quality of recommendation or users privacy? The more (private) data about the user are exposed the better could be quality of a recommendation; however, this may seriously affect a personal privacy. Taking this into account requires focus shifts towards design of trusted data intensive systems with an effective privacy mechanism that shields against unauthorized access to a users profile, while exposing sufficient amount of user information to trusted parties in order to receive helpful recommendations.

The position assumes research in several areas of data science including data management, trust, privacy and reputation mechanisms and architectures for data intensive systems.

This position is associated with the EU HORIZON2020 project European Data Science Academy where the successful applicant expects to contribute.

A master degree in data science, computer science, software engineering or similar academic education is required.
