Study and development of the direct laser deposition process of metal powders for the repair of aeronautical components

Because of the enormous interest from the aviation industry to the techniques of laser deposition of metal powders, and given the limited amount of research, data and results published so far on this, the aim is to investigate this context. In particular, we intend to develop an innovative laser deposition of metal powders, able to repair components that, after working, exhibit surfaces worn or damaged, so as to allow, as part of the normal activities of Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of aircraft engines, recovery of components with high technological content and high unit value, currently non-repairable. Then the phase of development of the process, through appropriate DOE techniques and analysis of results; it will try to deposit at least one type of material so as to ensure the requirements of reliability, repeatability and safety required for the aeronautical sector.
