PhD Position in Quantum Simulations in Photonic Chips : Southampton, United Kingdom

PhD Research Opportunities in Quantum Optics/Photonics

PhD studentship available for March 2015 start

A Ph.D. position in Quantum Simulations in photonic chips is open within the research group of Quantum nanoPhotonics lead by Dr Alberto Politi (http://qnp.phys.soton.ac.uk).

You will be part of a European project aiming to develop novel integrated optical components for quantum simulation applications. The project will involve nano-fabrication of relevant devices in the world-class facilities of the Mountbatten Clean Room Suite. Fabricated devices will then be characterized to test their classical response as well as the non-classical operation. This will possibly include non-linear optics and low temperature measurements.

The successful candidate will be trained on different aspects, from photonic simulations to nano-fabrications and quantum information theory. The Quantum nano-photonics group is a young group and offers a dynamic, stimulating and friendly research environment, the possibility to work with national and international collaborators (mainly throughout Europe).

The candidate has (or expect) a Master degree in Physics, Electronic Engineering or related discipline with an excellent academic record in semiconductor physics or optics. Knowledge of quantum optics, quantum information, spectroscopy or low temperature physics is desirable. The candidate is expected to have a strong attitude towards experimental physics and good communication and management skills.

This Studentship is open to UK and EU residents only.

Please send your application with a covering letter, your CV, and two reference letters by email to Dr Alberto Politi (A.Politi<στο>soton.ac.uk).
Consideration of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. More information can be found at http://qnp.phys.soton.ac.uk/phd_position

Don't forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
