Senior Adviser in Autonomous Space Navigation Instrumentation with Project Manager Responsibilities

Measurement & Instrumentation Division at DTU Space invites applications for a position as senior adviser with emphasis on space technology research and advice in the field of space navigation.

The Measurement and Instrumentation division has a leading international position in the field of space autonomous navigation and science grade vector magnetometers for space and ground use. The division develops and tests formation flying technology, super high accuracy star tracking, deep space navigation technique, planetary landing, non-stellar object detection and technique for Mars surface investigation.

Responsibilities and tasks
The senior adviser will provide consultancy based on the division’s technological research to public sector and comprise advisory services, as well as participate in division’s research and development processes. The Department of Measurement & Instrumentation is internationally acknowledged for conducting state-of-the-art technological research in field of space navigation, and the candidate must therefore have relevant experience within this area, preferably both national and international. 

The senior adviser will together with the responsible scientific leaders define, initiate and conduct strategic goals and market segments for the autonomous space navigation instruments. The activities will range from analysing new methods and concepts, via prototype design and testing, to finding new customers and conducting contract negotiations.

The senior adviser must engage in a close coordination with the Senior Research Scientists of the department. Furthermore it is expected that the candidate will pursue technological research projects with a line-of-sight to application by engaging with external parties and with colleagues across the Institute.

Additional tasks will be related to the department''s development and contractual projects, where the candidate is expected to act as a project manager for both internal and external projects.

In addition to the above mentioned tasks, either teaching or student supervising will be a part of the work responsibilities.

Qualifications
We expect the candidate to have experience in public consultancy and research-based communication. We also expect the candidate to hold a master’s degree in engineering and either a PhD degree or at least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following fields:

  • Autonomous Space Navigation
  • Instrument Design
  • Multiphysics, including Space Engineering
  • Flight hardware manufacturing and testing

It is a requirement that the candidate fully understands the relationship between technology, manufacturing and economy in a company, therefore a documented project management experience is obligatorily.

Furthermore we expect:

  • Desire to take part in defining strategic goals within space navigation field
  • Knowledge, experience and expertise in the field of hardware
  • Knowledge of Business Economy, Organization and Project Management
  • Good organizational skills and the desire and ability to cooperate
  • Proficiency in Danish and in English

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • National and international network within the field of space research
  • Experience in field of navigation instrumentation
  • Experience in field of space engineering
  • Dedication toward and ability to communicate
  • Desire and ability to contribute to the Department''s internal and external collaboration

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. 

The position is permanent.

The candidate should expect a considerable amount of business travel.
