Supported by the National Aerospace Technology Programme (NATEP), Stirling Dynamics, Bombardier Aerospace and NG Aircraft, this research will focus on the impact load analysis of an aircraft ditching onto water and its subsequent survivability with the end goal to provide commercially for the first time an aircraft ditching loads prediction tool for the aerospace industry. The research at the University of Southampton will focus on the experimental design and testing of an aircraft ditching rig using the new state of the art hydrodynamics facility, and developing our in-house high speed planning craft simulator for real-time load predictions.
The funding associated with this project covers EU/UK fees and stipend. Overseas students may have to cover the difference between EU/UK fees and international fees.
