SOFTWARE ENGINEER – Image-based guidance of RF ablation therapy

Within the department of Medical Information Technologies, the research group ESAT/PSI-Medical Image Computing – KU Leuven is looking for a SOFTWARE ENGINEER – Image-based guidance of RF ablation therapy

Description

iMinds - ESAT/PSI-Medical Image Computing, recently engaged in a IWT sponsored innovation project with TROD Medical, a Belgium/France/US start-up company. The aim of the project is to develop an image-guided planning tool for TROD’s proprietary radio-frequency (RF) ablation technology, an innovative therapy for focal treatment of prostate cancer.



Job description

As a Software Developer 
• You ensure the complete software development of the different components of the planning tool and the quality of those components. 
• You are responsible for software design, software unit testing, and you perform integration testing on phantom and clinical imaging data. 
• You are in charge of documentation. 
• You apply suitable software development methodologies, frameworks and standards in order to facilitate the certification of the software for use as a medical device. 
• You work closely with the research team, the company and the users for specification of functional requirements, and you ensure up to date technical knowledge for yourself and for the team. 
• Based on feedback from the users, you fix bugs and update software versions, and by doing so you participate at the improvement of the software and its functionalities.


Profile of the candidate

• You have a Master degree in Engineering Sciences, preferably in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, or you have an equivalent degree or experience. 
• You preferably have between 3 and 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in an industrial environment. 
• You have knowledge of C++ and more specifically with medical image processing and GUI libraries (e.g. VTK, ITK, Qt). 
• You are fascinated by new technologies and always willing to update your knowledge. 
• You are a hands-on and proactive person. 
• You are a team player with very good interpersonal skills. 
• You are able to organize your work autonomously. 
• Given the international environment, you have excellent communication skills in English. 
• Knowledge of relevant quality management standards (a.o. EN 62304, ISO 14971 and ISO 62366) related to medical devices is a plus.
