People as Sensors, User-generated Data, Location-based Services
The Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS (division GIScience) at University of Salzburg offers a Scientific Staff/PostDoc position (100%, payment according to collective agreement – “Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmer/innen der Universitäten”) to be filled ASAP. The main task is to carry out high-quality research in the area of “Urban Emotions“, i.e., the development of methods for extracting contextual emotion information from real-time human sensors and crowd-sourced data from social networks.
Description
The developed methods correlate emotion measurements from psycho-physiological smartband sensors with “People as Sensors” observations and different crowd-sourced data repositories (Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, etc.). The major research tasks for the announced position are defined as follows:
• Spatio-temporal correlation of emotion information from different sources (emotion sensors, People as Sensors, social media data)
• Information extraction from crowd-sourced data through combining methods from geoinformatics and computational linguistics
• Spatio-temporal visualisation of urban emotions
• Fusion of data from technical and human sensors
• Development of a People as Sensors LBS for generating individual emotion information
The position is temporary and will be filled for 1.5 years. Potentially, the contract can be renewed thereafter.
Candidates are required to hold a degree (preferably PhD) in the fields of geoinformatics, computer science, geography or a discipline related to geoinformatics. Moreover, an excellent research record in the area of geoinformatics and the ability to work autonomously and in teams are mandatory.
