Contract Research Officer – Nutrient recovery from dairy processing residues - (Ref: CRO / RR / 1114)

BASIC FUNCTION:
This scientist will have qualifications in agricultural/environmental engineering or environmental chemistry/microbiology or related discipline. The appointee will be the main researcher responsible for the project “Recovering and recycling of N/P/K nutrients from dairy residues” and will work strategically with other projects within a state funded initiative in dairy processing in collaboration with industry. The successful candidate will be experienced in agricultural/environmental engineering or chemistry with a focus on nutrient capture and waste water treatment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Review of existing nutrient recovery techniques from waste water and sludge.
•Design of experiments to test a range of methods for the capture, reduction and concentration of nutrients from dairy processing wastes.
•Pilot scale testing and evaluation of nutrient recovery technologies at partner dairy processing plants.

Person Specification

Essential
•Candidates must have an honours Level 8 degree in agricultural/environmental engineering or environmental chemistry/microbiology or a related discipline.

Desirable
•A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in waste water treatment would be a distinct advantage.
